Meet the Team - Nicki

It has been a little while since we last caught up with Nicki, so we thought it was the perfect time for a reintroduction.

Nicki is part of our customer service team, helping to keep customers updated and pallets moving smoothly behind the scenes.

From depot updates and live collection queries to dream cars, chocolate and a very specific Back to the Future office guest, here’s what she had to say.

Hi Nicki! For those who didn’t meet you last time, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your role at PalletOnline?

I work in customer service, so a big part of my role is clearing the messages that have been sent in from the depots overnight.

These messages can cover anything from collection updates to delivery queries or issues that need actioning, so I work through them to make sure the pallets are sent forward and customers are kept updated.

I also take depot calls at the time of a live collection or delivery if there is an issue, and then work with the customer to try and resolve the problem within a 15-minute window.

No pressure then… just a very casual race against the clock.

In short, Nicki is one of the people helping to keep customers informed, depots updated and pallets moving in the right direction. Which, as you can imagine, is quite handy when you work in pallet delivery.

You previously worked in the catering industry before joining PalletOnline. What made you decide to make the switch into logistics?

I realised during lockdown just how much the catering industry was taking over my time. I was working six or seven days a week, and it became too much.

I decided to look for a role that was Monday to Friday, because I had worked weekends for the majority of my working life. There comes a point when balance is needed.

Moving into logistics was definitely different, but it gave me the change I was looking for.

What has been your most memorable moment whilst working at PalletOnline?

Moving to the new building was a great moment.

We now work in a building that is such a nice working environment, and it is a pleasure to be in.

A good working environment and no weekend shifts? We can see the appeal.

We know you are a cars fan, but where did that initial love come from?

My mum and dad were both car mad, so we grew up surrounded by cars.

I used to go out and work on them with my dad, so I think that is where it all started.

Last time, your dream car was an RS500 Sierra Cosworth. Is that still the dream car?

It is still my ultimate dream car, followed closely by an RS Turbo Series One in white.

I actually have quite a list of dream cars. If I won the lottery, I would go out and buy them all. My garage would definitely have to be larger than the house!

Sensible priorities. House optional, dream garage essential.

If you could plan your perfect road trip anywhere in the UK or beyond, where would you go?

I would go back up to Scotland.

We went up to Edinburgh recently and the scenery was just stunning. I would stop off at Loch Ness to see if we could spot Nessie.

The car would have to be a Range Rover, purely for the comfort. Range Rovers are also on my list of dream cars.

You have mentioned before that you love the North Welsh coast. Is that still your favourite place?

I love that part of the coast and it will always be my go-to place. I would still like to retire there.

My favourite place that I have been to is London. There is so much to see and do, and I loved the hustle and bustle of it all.

So, while North Wales still has the long-term retirement plan firmly secured, London seems to have earned itself a very respectable place on the favourites list too.

What is a food you could eat every day of the week?

Oh, that is easy… chocolate!

Finally, an answer we can all understand with no further explanation required.

What TV show or film could you watch over and over again?

Keeping Up Appearances and Only Fools and Horses.

I love the humour in them. They are just classics!

A strong choice. After all, some things really do stand the test of time, and apparently that includes classic sitcoms, dream Fords and a reliable supply of chocolate.

If you could have any fictional character work in the office with you, who would it be?

Doc Brown from Back to the Future.

I would just hope that his time machine had progressed somewhat.

To be fair, a time machine could be useful in logistics. Missed collection window? Not anymore.

That wraps up our catch-up with Nicki.

It is always great to take a step back and get to know the people behind the scenes, especially those helping to keep communication clear, resolve issues quickly and make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible for our customers.

A big thank you to Nicki for taking the time to share a bit more about her role, interests and life outside of PalletOnline.

We will be back soon with another Meet the Team feature, so keep an eye out for the next one.
