International Restrictions

Before sending pallets internationally, you must check if your goods are restricted, controlled or banned in the destination country. Every country sets its own import rules, and it’s your responsibility to comply with them.

Restricted goods often need extra paperwork, certificates or import licences. Without these, your goods may be delayed, fined, or seized by customs - or refused by the buyer's country altogether.

Some examples of goods commonly restricted when entering the EU include:

  • Rough diamonds
  • Self-defence sprays (for example, pepper spray)
  • Counterfeit goods of any type
  • Certain food products - for example, Brazil nuts in their shells
  • Thermometers and other items containing mercury or hazardous chemicals

This is not a complete list. Restrictions change regularly and vary by country. You must check the full import rules for your destination before you book your delivery. For EU countries, visit the European Taxation and Customs Union website. For countries outside the EU, check with that country’s customs authority.

If your consignment includes restricted goods, and you fail to meet the legal requirements, the goods may be delayed or destroyed, and additional costs may apply.
